About the desk
What this is CycleShopNearMe — The Shop Index — is a decision desk, not a directory of record. We do not list shops, rate shops, or take shops' money. We publish the framework a rider needs to choose well anywhere in the United States: the right type of shop for the job, the questions that reveal a bench's quality, and the price bands a fair shop charges.
Why no listings?
Because we cannot verify them. A directory entry asserts that a shop exists, at an address, offering services, at some quality — and keeping thousands of such assertions true is a full-time verification operation we do not run. Rather than print plausible-looking listings we cannot stand behind, we print none, and say so. When a rider needs names, the honest route is a map search filtered by what this desk teaches: shop type, written menus, measured wear, dated tickets.
How the price bands were compiled
In October 2026 the desk read the published service menus of independent bicycle shops across all six Index regions — shop websites and in-store menus in the open — and recorded menu prices for the 17 services in the ledger. Bands show the middle range observed; coastal metros cluster at the top, small-town shops at the bottom. Bands are guidance for judging a quote, not quotations, and they age: treat anything here as a 2026 reading, to be re-checked against the menu of the shop in front of you.
What we are not
- Not a bicycle shop — we take no repairs, sell no bikes, book no appointments.
- Not an agent of any shop — no shop can pay to be found, favoured or described here.
- Not a review platform — we publish no ratings or reviews of individual businesses.
